C.H.A.L.E. hopes to change hombres around lived experiences by exploring how past trauma, living through machismo, and examining the cultural context in which Brown & Black men live in shapes us... and how we can redefine it. By deconstructing our lives through seminars, group pláticas, online resources, and shared backgrounds, we can help hombres become the best versions of themselves, break free from toxic masculinity, and become the fathers, sons, tios, abuelos, and partners we were destined to be. Our end goal is to become the bridge between Brown & Black men who are struggling with accepting mental health wellness and therapy, be it through resources, toolkits, but more so through licensed professional mental health counseling.
Two Chicanos who have been (and continue to be) on their mental health journey who met through a mutual friend (shout out to the homie Carlos) who shared a passion for sharing their story, who both understood the power of understanding our past trauma, and a desire to help our community.
You can find more about us individually on our About Us Section.
C.H.A.L.E. uses individual, personal, and community resources that have worked.
Pláticas (talks in English) are the main medium for C.H.A.L.E. We intend to do frequent collaborations with other mental health advocates; our intention is to always provide perspective and support mental health wellness, specifically in regards to Brown and Black men.
Perhaps our most important part of the mission of C.H.A.L.E. is our commitment to be as hyper local as possible, starting with San Antonio, Austin and Houston. We absolutely will have a state and national prescence but our focus will be on our communidad, con nuestra gente, starting with San Antonio Texas.
Data, tools, worksheets and other selected content is provided to our community as a means to begin understanding our healing, to continue our progress, and further our knowledge of ourselves.
C.H.A.L.E. is enlisting trusted partners whom we have vetted and give credence to as reliable and understanding allies who understand the work that is being done and have a special understanding of what it means to be a Brown or Black man who hasn't been fond of mental health wellness, whether because of cultural, generational, personal, or societal stigmas.
